NOOK TABLET HD VIDEO INVESTIGATION
On Wednesday, November 16, 2011, Barnes & Noble started shipping its new tablet, the NOOK Tablet. On its website and product packaging, Barnes & Noble advertised the NOOK Tablet’s ability to play HD video.
Examples include the “Best in HD entertainment,” “HD movies & TV shows with Netflix & Hulu Plus,” “HD videos stream smoothly,” “Enjoy HD Video, and “Supports HD content up to 1080p.”
However, according to The New York Times, the NOOK Tablet cannot actually display HD video. In fact, its screen only supports lower resolutions.
Schubert Jonckheer & Kolbe LLP is investigating these HD video claims and believes Barnes & Noble may have violated laws prohibiting false and misleading advertising.
